If an Article is Written in the Forest…
I might as well do a little experimenting
I’ve read more than a few articles on Medium regarding the fact that if you publish through a publication, your followers aren’t notified that you wrote anything. Those stories got me thinking (uh oh) —for whatever reason, even though I follow hundreds of people, I miss a lot of good writing. How do we make sure people know we wrote something? I’m not sure, but there are a few things one can do to mitigate the situation, and after a bit of thought, I’m going to try a couple of them.
First, I’m going to add the email subscription link. I resisted it for a while because it felt too much like I was being pushy. If that makes little sense to you, you’re not alone. I now realize that providing a means for people to be alerted to new writing is reasonable, so logic has walloped my nerves. Maybe nobody will subscribe, but for sure they won’t if there’s not even the ability to do so.
The second thing I’m going to try, which you’ll see below, is self-publishing an article each month summarizing what I wrote the previous month. I hope this approach will help me connect with those who may have missed a piece at the original time of publication. If this seems worthwhile and I do it again, I promise to avoid the heavy preamble.
